HUTCHISON PORTS BUYS CRANES FOR PAKISTAN TERMINAL
Hutchison Ports Pakistan has signed a contract with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) for an extensive package of container handling equipment for its newest Karachi terminal. This includes the purchase of eight new cabinless remote-controlled quayside gantry cranes and 24 remote-controlled rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. On delivery of this new equipment, the Hutchison Ports Pakistan terminal will be equipped with a total of 16 remote-controlled quayside cranes and 53 RTGs.
Captain Syed Rashid Jamil, General Manager and Head of Hutchison Ports Pakistan said, “With this acquisition, we have affirmed our commitment to Pakistan’s trade and economy and we shall continue doing so in the future. The addition of new remote controlled quay cranes and RTGs will significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of our operations and further enhance the quality of our world-class service.”
Recently Hutchison Ports Pakistan handled the largest containership yet to call into Pakistan. The 11,923 teu China India Express, operated by Cosco Shipping lines, was able to call thanks to the 16.5 m draft of the Hutchison facility.
